Postnatal Nutrition

The biggest complaints of women postpartum tend to be exhaustion and changes in mood, which are often exacerbated by fluctuating levels of oestrogen, progesterone and thyroid hormones and lack of sleep. Fortunately, eating the right foods can manage these conditions safely. A practical and personalised postnatal nutrition plan will help you to safely return to your pre-pregnancy weight while replenishing your reserves so you can feel your best and have the energy to look after your little people. As a mum of 3 myself I understand the exhaustion, the cravings and the time constraints a new baby brings and I will take your personal situation into accounts so that your bespoke program is achievable and realistic.

Throughout pregnancy, your body was completely devoted to your baby. It is very normal to feel depleted after the birth and looking after yourself now isn’t self-indulgent, it’s essential!

The quality of your breast milk really does depend on your health and the food you eat on a daily basis.  Some women find it more difficult to breastfeed than others and it can be a period that leaves you feeling tired and anxious. Personal nutritional support will ensure you give your body all it needs to produce good quality breast milk and recover quickly from the pregnancy and birth.

The first step to vibrant post-natal health is to book your initial consultation with me. During our first consultation we will discuss your pregnancy, the birth and your concerns and goals, and anything else relevant to your current situation. From there I will provide a realistic timeframe for your recovery. Your tailor-made programme is likely to involve:

  • Analysis of any tests that your doctor has performed and, if necessary, further testing may be recommended.
  • Your food diary will be analysed and measured against your body’s unique requirements. I will explain which foods are best to include in order to optimize your diet.
  • Recipes that suit you and your family’s your personal preferences, current cravings, nutritional needs and cooking ability.
  • Weekly follow up consultations to check your progress and to revise and adjust your programme. After each consultation you receive a written report containing your recommendations, supporting resources where necessary.

In my experience the clients who commit to working with me for a minimum of 3 months achieve the best results. It takes around 3 months to mature an egg and a batch of sperm so this is the minimum amount of time that anyone should dedicate to recovering from pregnancy and childbirth.

Change is hard, and making a lifestyle change is even harder. This time can also filled with worry and anxiety, so having that support of a coach who is fully focused and dedicated in supporting you is the best way to take you to your next stage.

The quickest and most effective way to achieve your goals fast is by working 1:2:1 with me on a weekly basis. Most nutritional therapists or functional medicine practitioners will see you once every 4-6 weeks but I have found that very ineffective. Instead, I will take you through a step-by-step program that works, keep you accountable, and your diet and lifestyle program will be tweaked weekly to make sure you stay on course.

I only work with a maximum of 5 couples at any one time. In order to be able to achieve the best results possible for those clients I dedicate my time and energy fully into their journey.

The 3-month package includes:

– my comprehensive intake form
– one initial 2-hour consultation (I prefer to see you as a couple for this one, if possible)
– 10 weekly sessions via Skype (45-60 minutes), over the course of 12-13 weeks.
– a 10% discount on supplements via The Natural Dispensary and Amrita Nutrition

If you would like to invest in personalised 1:2:1 coaching you must first have a discovery call. This call is not a sales call but a call to see if we are the right fit to work with one another. I don’t always say yes. Sometimes I may feel that there is another health professional who is better placed to help you.

Any recommended supplements and tests are not included in the price, however I don’t charge for my time in interpreting tests, writing reports or liaising with other medical professionals involved in your care.
